The Different Types of South Indian Silk Sarees – Their Designs, Fabric, and Wearing Occasions


Kanjivaram silk sarees.

Kanjivaram sarees are renowned for their South Indian origin and are made from pure mulberry silk, known for its heavy and lustrous texture. On the other hand, Banarasi sarees are from Varanasi (Banaras) in North India and are typically crafted from fine silk or brocade fabric.





Dharmavaram silk sarees

This is pure Silk Plain Shirting woven by the weavers of Peddapuram village on Handloom using Mulberry Silk Yarn. The weight of the cloth is around 55-6 0 grams.






Mysore silk sarees. 

Mysore silk is 100% pure silk. It's made from the cocoons of the mulberry silk moth, Bombyx mori. Mysore silk is famed for its gleaming appearance and one-of-a-kind lustre. The fabric's quality is remarkable, especially with its desirable historical significance. 






South silk designer saree. 

It is a pure silk saree from Bangalore featuring exhilarating checks border with rust color body. Its fine and light in texture and makes a good occasion wear.

 


Arni silk sarees. 

 Arni is a town situated in Thiruvannamalai District in Tamil Nadu. Traditionally, Arni silk sarees are called as “Dobby variety”. These sarees are woven with mulberry silk in warp and weft by using dobby.



  Gadwal silk sarees

Gadwal sarees are known for their unique weaving technique, distinctive interlocking joints, and the use of cotton and silk. 


                                 Kasavu silk sarees

 Kasavu saree: A traditional Kerala saree that is often worn during festivals like Onam. It has a white or off-white body with a golden border. The word "Kasavu" means "Zari", which is a thread traditionally made of gold or silver. 





    Pochampally silk saree.

 Pochampally is also known as Ikkat/Tie & Dye, the uniqueness of this fabric lies in the transfer of design and colouring onto warp, for weaving them deftly together. Pochampally and the cluster of many villages in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district of Telangana are renowned for world-famous Ikat designs and dress materials.
